Student Engagement Initiative

The Student Engagement Initiative is a new program building on WestLink’s desire to help young professionals who are interested in pursuing a career in technology commercialization. We feel it is important to engage these future leaders and innovators in the commercialization community early in their professional careers. As a leading organization, WestLink’s role is to collaborate with others to build excellence. This initiative is important to enhance our economy and to increase communication in the technology sector.

The program allows students the opportunity to participate in WestLink events at a special rate or at no cost. Sponsorship for the WestLink Annual Conference also includes complimentary student registrations under each level of sponsorship.

Our aim is to see the program expand and to have more students partake in other events, such as the WestLink Leadership Series and The WestLink Connector.

Your organizations can support this program by:

• Registering a student for a WestLink event
• Give a student a place at an event if  you are unable to attend
• Sponsor a WestLink event
• Help promote this program if you work at a post-secondary institutio

• Valuable network-building opportunities: students will be able to speak with a range of professionals and potentially market themselves for future employment
• Professional development: students will learn from highly skilled, intellectual professionals from across Canada and the United States
• Experience and professionalism: students will gain practical skills from participating in and observing a formal business conference, seminar or event
• Knowledge and skill development: students will learn about various industries, technologies and organizations that are relevant to their educational programs and to their anticipated careers; they will also gain valuable insight into current national issues
• Access to information: students obtain information about the innovation system, technology transfer and participating organizations that could be potential employers
